The Tortoise Rescue Centre focuses all resources to benefit conservation and provide exciting visitor experiences which inspire and empower people to take positive action for environment and wildlife. It is open for visits from June to September. Here you may witness the wonderful and unique aspects of tortoise natural history, learn about protective legislation the main threats they are facing. Hikes and interpretative presentations will allow you to experience first-hand the beauty and natural richness of the area.

You may observe both species of tortoises inhabiting our country, in all their life stages – eggs, newly born hatchlings, juveniles and adults; you may have the unique opportunity to witness interesting moments of their behavior – nesting, hatching, feeding, and mating; you can take interesting pictures of tortoises. Along with the tortoise conservation, breeding and rehabilitation, the centre is also an eco – facility providing interpretive information about the tortoises and herpetological fauna. We actively work for popularization of the problems of tortoise conservation and their habitats, carry out green education and information initiatives, distribute sustainable forms of local development and means of livelihood, carry out voluntary activities. We encourage connections with wild nature through eco-tourist programs and raise awareness of the pristine environment of Eminska Mountain where the centre is located. The centre offers seven programs for its visitors. Our aim is to provide opportunities for connecting to these ancient reptiles, coming to know it through experience and understanding and moving on with a sense of joy and discovery of one’s own ecological identity.
